Sheffield Steelers 3 – Nottingham Panthers 2

E2KI were proud to support our Sheffield Steelers on Sunday 20th November at the Sheffield Arena where they took victory over the Nottingham Panthers. Highlights below,

“Mark Thomas was the hero of the Sheffield Arena on Sunday evening after scoring the overtime winner against the Nottingham Panthers in the 62nd minute.

Thomas scored a spectacular winner after receiving a pass from Rod Sarich, skating past the Panthers defense and firing the puck over the shoulder of the impressive Kowalski in the Nottingham net.

The game ebbed and flowed throughout. The Steelers dominated the opening period with Ashley Tait scoring in the first shift of the game and then adding a second shorthanded in the 10th minute.

If the first period belonged to the Steelers, the middle period belonged to the Nottingham Panthers. Jordon Fox halved the Steelers lead before Danny Meyers equalised inside the opening 3.30 seconds of the second period.

The third period was a nervous affair, with both teams having power play chances. Both DeCaro and Kowalski were called on to make big saves as the game ended 2-2 in regulation and moved into overtime.

In just the second shift of the additional period the Steelers scored the winner through Mark Thomas, it sent the largest crowd of the season home happy and the Steelers a point closer to the top of the Elite League”

STEELERS 5-3 Cardiff Devils

Mike Ramsay was the star of the show scoring two third period goals to help the Steelers come from behind to beat the Cardiff Devils 5-3 on Sunday evening.

The Steelers stated slowly and Devils took advantage scoring inside 2 minutes when Sam Smith slotted home after good work from Ben Davies

It was a lead that Cardiff held onto until the period break. The Steelers came out a little sharper in the middle period and tied the game when Ryan Finnerty left the penalty box just in time to break away and score. At the mid way point the Steelers took the advantage with Neil Clarke picking up on a rebound from Stevie Lyle to put the Steelers ahead.

Gerad Adams teams don’t give up at the first asking though and they bounced back in dramatic style as first Phil Hill (short handed) and then Jeff Pierce put Cardiff back ahead by the 2nd break.

Cardiff must have felt that the points were heading back to Wales as the final session drew to a conclusion however with Chris Frank taking a slashing minor the Steelers took the initiative with Jason Hewitt snipping a snap shot past Lyle on the Power Play.

Mike Ramsay then picked up on a pass from Neil Clark to put the Steelers ahead just a minute later

Then with 61 seconds remaining Ryan Finnerty headed to the penalty box for tripping, the Devils called a time out and pulled their goalie. A great face off win by Jeff Legue ensured that Mike Ramsay was the hero of the night scoring his 2nd goal, shorthanded into an empty net.
